Although expanding agricultural production and distribution in rural communities is an important way to help families break the cycle of generational poverty, people living in cities also need support. urban appraisal, the enterprises of major importance to urban and peri-urban farmers were established and ranked. The Ansoff product-market growth matrix (Kotler, ) was used as a tool for planning the survey in terms of growth alternatives, based on the perceived opportunities and constraints of urban and peri-urban farmers in Kampala.

To limit their risk, farmers now have a chance to buy insurance cover for crops and livestock after insurance companies, led by Lions Assurance, introduced the first ever agrinsurance product. The capital Kampala is the lively, creative and ever-evolving heart of the new Uganda. It is a brash and fast-moving city of contrasts. The open-air markets of the city’s urban farmers sit next to modern high-rises. It’s the city of soca rhythms and Phiona Mutesi, Uganda’s year-old slum-born chess master. Kampala is changing.
